As much as the dark tone may bother you, it is practically a guarantee that your piece is made of sterling silver. The metals, like us, are subject to nature, and react to the environment, in the case of sterling silver, it blackens as a reaction to tiny and imperceptible amounts of sulfur in the air that gradually over time will give it that orange tone at first, and black later on.

in Mexico, we usually say that silver oxidizes when it turns black, I prefer the English definition, tarnish, simply because it is more precise, what happens with silver is just that, since the metal does not react to oxygen itself.

en México solemos decir que la plata se oxida cuando se pone negra, yo prefiero la definición en inglés, empañar, simplemente porque es más preciso, lo que pasa con la plata es justamente eso, ya que la reacción química no es al oxígeno y por lo tanto no es una oxidación.
